Stored In The Body
It’s not just anger that poisons us. It’s painful memories, sadness, self-hatred, shame.
It took me years to understand that just because a painful experience was over, didn’t mean the effects were over.
Pain gets stored deep in the nervous system and stays there until we feel truly safe enough to heal.
I learned this the hard way in my twenties when I became very sick for many years. My nervous system was wrecked. My immune system was breaking down.
And no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get my body to heal itself.
It turns out time doesn’t heal all wounds. Safety does.
When your body feels truly safe—emotionally, physically, spiritually—it can finally stop fighting and start repairing itself.
The more we forgive ourselves and others, the more negative emotions we release, the more we give ourselves permission to feel truly safe in our lives, the more we set ourselves free.
Writing Prompt:
