Pace Yourself

Pace Yourself

Still, what I want in my life
is to be willing
to be dazzled—
to cast aside the weight of facts
and maybe even to float a little
above this difficult world.

- Mary Oliver

Look, if it gets too heavy, set it down.
You don’t have to solve everything right now.
You don’t even have to think about it.

You need breaks from healing work too.

Especially if your head is spinning.
Especially if you don’t know what’s up and what’s down.
Especially if you feel wrecked.

Take a breath.
Go outside.
Distract yourself.
Listen to music.
Move your body.
Taste things slowly with your eyes closed.
Put your hand on your heart.
Give yourself a hug.
Look at yourself in the mirror - and smile.

Things take the time they take.
That includes healing, strength, bravery.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint.
Pace yourself.
